The 20 Questions Book Tag!

OKAY, I'M ACTUALLY BACK NOW FOR REAL THIS TIME.

Oh happy days when the first tag I get after my hiatus, just happens to be a book tag! *heart eyes*

Thanks Kendra! (Also, sorry that this is so late </3 Super excited to do it still though!)

How many books are too many books in a book series?

Once it hits the double digits... I try to steer clear. I'm lookin' at you, The Rangers Apprentice series. What happened to you!? *cries*

Nowadays, I prefer trilogies (I rarely ever manage to read a standalone book... most of the time the trilogy part sneaks up on me with a cliffhanger), and five books is probably the highest I'd ever go willingly anymore. While more books in a series means you get to hang out with the characters more often (a definite plus!) it's kinda frustrating when things become predictable and/or take too slow. Sometimes ya gotta let it go and move on.

How do you feel about cliffhangers?

Depends whether the cliffhanger is at the end of a chapter, or rather the end of the book.

End of the chapter: I bounce excitedly and keep reading. (unless it's a situation in which I can't read the next chapter because the writer is still writing it.. in which case I just keep mentally screaming until she uploads the next one xD)

End of the book:

Also screaming.

So to answer the question, they work perfectly and, in all honestly, make reading the next installment all the more satisfying.

But I also hate them. :D

Hardback or paperback?

Either! But there's something super special about a hardback copy. The only thing I don't like about hardbacks would be the dustjacket. (Which, granted is probably the most beautiful part since it holds the front cover art) I'm just always worried about how I'm holding the book, and it makes the reading experience rather umcomfortable in my opinion.

Favorite book?

Awk. How dare you make me choose out of all my precious bebes! D:

I don't think I can have just one favourite? There's tons of books I've thoroughly enjoyed and would totally read again, yes. But I just can't decide on one to give the super-awesome title of 'favourite'.

But! A few honourable mentions would be... (In no particular order!)

A. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.
I had to read it for school, and loved it so much that I had to watch all the well-known movie versions. Including Pride and Prejudice + Zombies xD Best decision ever.

B. 100 Cupboards by N.D Wilson. (The series)

Most memorable impulse read, thanks to a good friend's suggestion. It was so good I had to read the next two books in the series and always make sure my wardrobe's doors were shut whenever I went to bed. ;D

C. God's Smuggler by Brother Andrew with Elizabeth and John L. Sherrill.
I'm not usually a fan of biographies, but I think I chose to read this one on whim and aCK IT WAS SO GOOD. Seriously. If you ever see this book: read it. It's awesome.

T'was a sad day indeed on my third read-through, when I accidentally left the book in the sun and all the glue holding the pages together melted... </3

Least favorite book?

Oh man... I think this one is even harder! If I'm not enjoying a book, I tend to just stop reading, and so I don't really remember much about them.

Love triangles, yes or no?

Honestly? Only if it's done well. I don't normally like seeing love triangles in anything unless it's the least important thing and doesn't suffocate the plot. I usually avoid any book that mentions it on the back cover, just out of habit.

The most recent book you just couldn’t finish?

Fawkes by Nadine Brandes.

Don't get me wrong, I really wanted to finish it! But as I had bought the book for my younger sister's birthday--and because I am a super slow reader-- I had kinda ran out of time and had to hand it over. *sad sniff*

I figure if she's willing, I can always borrow it and finish reading it another time. :P

A book you’re currently reading?

Mortal Engines by Philip Reeve. It's really cool so far, and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the movie at somepoint!

Last book you recommended to someone?

God's Smuggler. xD

Oldest book you’ve read? (publication date)

I'm suuuuuure there's an older one in my bookcase, but off the top of my head (and after doubling checking on google xD) it'd have to be Pride and Prejudice. Having been published in 1813.

Newest book you’ve read? (publication date)

Most likely Fawkes by Nadine Brandes. Published only just last year! ^-^

Favorite author?

Oooh probably Jackie French and Nadine Brandes. Coming in close with awesome writing style and characters, we also have Rick Riordan.

See? I can't do just one favourite... xD

Buying books or borrowing books?

So far, buying. Just since we don't managed to make it to the library very often anymore, and borrowing books from friends kinda stresses me out since I don't want to accidentally damage any of their precious babies. o-o

A book you dislike that everyone else seems to love?

Erm, well, I wouldn't say "dislike" so much... Kinda more like "couldn't care to read beyond the first five chapters" because I either;

a) had a short attention span at the time.

or

b) had a massive pile from the library to get through and more interesting looking books were calling out to me.

But yeah, it was this one:

Click picture to be transported through Magic Portal to the Goodreads page.

Going by the reviews, it does sound awesome and exciting and I started reading the book with high hopes, but I gave up pretty quickly when I found myself bored within the first five chapters. With more time spent, I suppose I probably could've gotten into it a bit more, but I highly doubt I'll revisit this book again in the future. </3

Bookmarks or dog-ears?

I used to dog-ear my place a lot when I was younger, but nowadays I just use an clean tissue...

Sounds kinda blargh and boring, but trust me when I say it's much easier than constantly being worried about misplacing a fancier bookmark. (Something I tend to do a lot).

A book you can always reread?

I think it would be pretty much any of the books in the Percy Jackson universe. Heroes Of Olympus or his debut series.

I just adore the writing style and the characters, and while there are a few things that I'm not fond of in the series, I often like to pick out one of the books from my shelf and just start reading from wherever.

....Now I want to read them from start to finish again. o-o

Can you read while hearing music?

Yep!

Is it helpful?

Nope!

If I listen with music, I find it harder to imagine the scenes as a movie in my head and I tend to forget what I've read a lot quicker... But 'tis possible.

One POV or multiple POVs?

More often than not, I prefer just the one POV. Unless I really don't like that character. xD

Multiple POVs can work really nicely. But for me, it has to be super obvious whenever there's a switch, otherwise I just don't notice... Could be done well with either with 3rd person, or a giant flashing sign on the page before the switch that says; "CHARACTER POV CHANGE AHEAD, HOLD ONTO YOUR SOCKS."

Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?

I used to be able to read books in one sitting. 'Winnie The Horse Gentler' I believe, was the peak of my reading obsession, and due to the next book somehow always arriving in the mail the very next day (Thanks Grandparents!), I was constantly hooked on the series.

Nowadays I tend to take a few months of on and off reading, before finally reaching the climactic point of the story. It's terrible, I know.

Who do you tag?

Ralraymee! @ The Art of Life.

And also, anyone else who is interested in doing it! Sorry I can't be more specific. I haven't exactly been able to pay attention to what's been going on in the blogosphere lately, so I didn't want to accidentally tag anyone who might be sick of doing it over and over... xD

Here are the Questions:

1. How many books are too many books in a book series?
2. How do you feel about cliffhangers?
3. Hardback or paperback?
4. Gavorite book?
5. Least favorite book?

So I guess that brings us to the end of this post! I hope everyone had a good Christmas and a happy New Years. ^-^

I'm gonna try and go back to my old goal of managing at least one blog post per month. Should be achievable, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. xD

Thanks for reading!

    1. I really want to, yup! A few more books have pushed their way infront of it, but otherwise I'll get to it eventually xD

And yes!! I really like that one, despite it not being as close to the book as the BBC version. Which silly, 'cos all boke-based movies are a bit like that. THe one thing I loved about watching all of the versions was that each one had a different scene from the book that the others didn't have xD Even if one of the movie's scenes has a few zombies in the background...

YASS! 100 CUPBOARDS!! *throws confetti* :D
